Cheri and I spent a few days last
week with my family in the Memphis area for the Thanksgiving holiday. We celebrated my dad’s 85th
birthday as well as the birthday of my sister-in-law, Susan. Our two sons and daughter-in-law made the
trip, and the Thanksgiving table included my niece, my two sisters and a
friend. As I looked around the table, it
was strange to not see my brother there.
We all felt the absence of Michael, but we know he was at a much greater
table than ours.
As I reflect on the events of
this past year, I can see the hand of God on my life and on my family. He has sustained us through the loss of loved
ones. He has provided income from
unexpected sources. We have had the
privilege of sharing the Gospel of Christ with those who are searching for
truth. We have been encouraged by dear
friends who joyfully walk beside us and we’ve had the opportunity to serve and
encourage others as well. We have
experienced the grace of God daily, and for that, our hearts are full of
thanksgiving!
As we head into the Christmas
season, my prayer is that we will continue to give thanks daily for God’s
steadfast love. It was His love for us
that compelled Him to send His Son to earth to save us from the penalty of sin.
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love
endures forever!” - 1 Chronicles 16:34 ESV
