Have you ever been awakened in the night by God? I was awakened several nights ago with the urge to pray. I wasn’t groggy from sleepiness, and I didn’t feel inclined to do anything but pray. I believe God woke me up to talk with me.
I don’t recall everything that I talked with God about, but as I prayed, a phrase from a familiar Bible verse came to mind; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” I opened the Bible app on my iphone and went to Proverbs 3. I read the most familiar verses in that passage, verses 5 and 6 which says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – ESV
I thought about an article I wrote on August 10th called “With All My Heart”. When I wrote that article, God had impressed on me the need to seek Him will all my heart. He said that if we will seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him. In Proverbs 3:5-6, He tells us to trust Him will our whole heart, and if we do, He will make our paths straight.
How often do we say we trust God, then continue to worry about the very thing that we say we trust God for? That’s an indication that we are not trusting God with all our heart. And if we don’t trust Him completely, we’re still trusting in our own abilities instead of in the omnipotence of God.
I began to pray again, this time asking God to enable me to trust Him with my whole heart and to make my path straight. I’ve asked God for that everyday since then, and sometimes several times a day. But God is working on me and teaching me that I can trust him with all my heart instead of leaning on my own understanding. If you’re worried about your circumstances, your health, or anything else, ask God to fill your heart and enable you to trust Him will all your heart. God will reveal Himself to you and show you how to walk with Him.
